At performHR, we like to practice what we preach. Investing in your people is what we believe every organisation should do, and it is something that we take very ‘seriously’.(Right, Wally?) With this in mind, last week saw our team fly in from Brisbane and Perth, and the migration up the M1 for our Sydney siders to gather in Newcastle for our bi- annual team day.

With the beautiful Merewether beach as our back drop, the performHR team took a day out to reconnect, reflect on our learnings and success from 2018, and refocus on our strategic plan, and what it means to be a performHR consultant.

Each of our team were tasked with collaborating with each other to run focus sessions on our values and how this translates into the service we provide our clients, our key services, and how we can further build our personal brand as leaders in our field.

Following on from a session on company-wide updates, no question was left unanswered with a Q & A panel presentation from the performHR Leadership team. We make it a reoccurring agenda item to not only look at where we have come from but set the tone and focus for where we are headed and how we can further push our own boundaries.

 team day 3

A key motto for our team is ‘getting out of your comfort zone and becoming comfortable with the uncomfortable’. As they say, a comfort zone is a beautiful place but nothing ever grows there!  With growth as our context for 2019, our team narrowed in on what it really means to operate on a daily basis with a growth mindset.

Forbes Magazine earlier  this year stated that there are 12 Crucial traits to foster a growth mindset:

  1. Be open- minded
  2. Get comfortable with ambiguity and uncertainty
  3. Show strong situational awareness
  4. Have a greater sense of preparedness
  5. Have clarity on what others expect from your leadership
  6. Take ownership
  7. Grow with people
  8. Seek to eliminate mediocrity and complacency
  9. Break down silos
  10. Have a strong executive presence
  11. Stand for inclusion and promote individuality
  12. Want significance more than success

Wrapping up with a reflection and goal setting session for the new year and a toast to our success, we rolled into an evening of laughter and lawn bowls for the performHR Christmas party.

Christmasw party 2

The buzz in the weeks leading up to these days is electric. The anticipation of catching up, learning and growing together has become a much loved part of our culture. We reconnect, refuel and refocus. To love what you do and love who you get to do it with is a gift. Here is a toast to 2018 and an even bigger toast for what we plan to create in 2019.
